If there were Jews around when the coffee was made one has to be concerned that the goy may have made extra for the Jew. Therefore such coffee may not be consumed. An example would be a person staying in a hotel for Shabbat. If he came down to the lobby and there was coffee already ready, it is permissible to partake of the coffee.
