Instances When Hagefen Covers Other Drinks as Well

Instances When Hagefen Covers Other Drinks as Well
Day: Friday
Date: May 27, 2016
Parshat: Behar
Yalkut Yosef: O"H: 208

As mentioned previously, (Feb. 5, 2016) the beracha of hagefen that is said on wine or grape juice covers other drinks as well and therefore one who drinks other drinks after having wine or grape does not say a beracha on those drinks. The same is true with regards to after berachot. Meaning, one who drank wine and also had other drinks which otherwise require boreh nefashot only says al hagefen on the wine. If at the time he said the beracha on the other drinks the wine was not yet present he still says al hagefen to cover both as long as the wine or grape juice was his main drink. However, if he only had a cup or other such small amount of wine then he still needs to say boreh nefashot if the wine was not there when he said shehakol on the other drinks.
