Moving in to a New Residence During the Period of Sefirat Haomer

Moving in to a New Residence During the Period of Sefirat Haomer
Day: Thursday
Date: May 12, 2016
Parshat: Kidoshim
Yalkut Yosef: O"H: 493

Even though it is better during the period of Sefirat Haomer to refrain from saying Shehehyanu on new clothing, it is nevertheless permissible during this time to move into a new residence, whether bought or rented, and to say Shehehyanu on it. When saying the shehehyanu on a new residence one should ideally say the beracha on a new fruit or while wearing a new garment and have in mind the new place, however, if he cannot do either of those he may still say the beracha. During the Hanukat Habayit words of Torah should be said in order to make it a seudat mitzvah. It is not permissible to play music during the Hanukat Habayit regardless whether it is live or recorder.
