One Who Ate a Complete Food That is Less Than a Kezayit

One Who Ate a Complete Food That is Less Than a Kezayit
Day: Sunday
Date: May 29, 2016
Parshat: Behukotai
Yalkut Yosef: O"H: 208

In memory of Hannah bat Shelomo.

As mentioned previously there is a disagreement among the poskim whether a kezayit is 18 or 27 grams. There are also some poskim who maintain that one who ate a complete item, such as a grape, needs to say an after beracha even if the item is less than a kezayit. However, due to it being a safek no after beracha is said in that situation. One who ate between 18 and 27 grams of a food, putting him in safek, and then also ate something complete but less than a kezayit which puts him in a double safek, nevertheless does not say an after beracha in that case. An example would be one who ate a small amount, between 18 and 27 grams, of pomegranate seeds and also ate one olive. Even though there is a safek safeka, no after beracha is said.
