The Beracha When Numerous Kinds of Fruits Present

The Beracha When Numerous Kinds of Fruits Present
Day: Tuesday
Date: June 7, 2016
Parshat: Bamidbar
Yalkut Yosef: O"H: 211

In memory of Hannah bat Shelomo.

One who has in front in him a variety of fruits should first partake of and say the beracha on fruits of the shiv'at haminim if there are any present. The fruits of the shiv'at haminim are: grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates. Even if he likes a different kind fruit better, still, the fruits of the shiv'at haminim should be the ones that the beracha is said on. Once the beracha is said however, there is no preference on the order of eating the rest of the fruits. Meaning, once he says ha'etz on grapes for example, he may eat an apple even though there are also dates present. It is important to note that the preference only includes foods that are currently present. It is not necessary for one to wait and not say ha'etz on apples because he knows that grapes will be brought out as well.
