The Order When There are Multiple Fruits of the Shiv'at Haminim Present

The Order When There are Multiple Fruits of the Shiv'at Haminim Present
Day: Wednesday
Date: June 8, 2016
Parshat: Bamidbar
Yalkut Yosef: O"H: 211

In memory of Hannah bat Shelomo.

As mentioned previously, one who has various types of fruits in front of him first says the beracha and partakes of fruits of the shiv'at haminim and then partakes of the others. If there are multiple fruits of the shiv'at haminim present, the rule is as follows: the fruits that are closer to the word "eretz" in the verse which lists the shiv'at haminim get the beracha and get eaten first. The pasuk (Devarim 8:8) says "A land of wheat and barley, grapes and figs and pomegranates; a land of oil olives and date honey." Therefore, olives precede dates, dates precede grapes, and so forth. There are some who maintain that since wine is so special that is has its own beracha, it precedes the other fruits. However, our custom does not follow this view.
