According to the Sephardic custom, a person who emerged unharmed from a car accident does not say Hagomel. This is true even if there were others in the car with him who were hurt or even killed Gd forbid. Hagomel is still not said just because of the accident itself. However, if he spent time in the hospital because of the accident, then he does say Hagomel upon his recovery even if he sustained permanent injuries or deformities. If the car ride lasted 72 minutes or more, Hagomel may be said on the car ride while having in mind the accident as well.

DSH is brought to you in memory of Rabbi Mordechai ben Daniel. Please visit us online at SephardicHalacha.org
