Answering Baruch Hu Uvaruch Shemo

Answering Baruch Hu Uvaruch Shemo
Day: Thursday
Date: July 8, 2016
Parshat: Korah
Yalkut Yosef: O"H: 214

There is a very nice custom that most people have to answer "baruch Hu uvaruch shemo" after hearing Hashem's name in a beracha. However, if the one saying the beracha is saying it so quickly that by answering baruch hu uvaruch shemo one will miss out on saying amen, he should wait and say amen only. Many people have a custom answer amen to the harahamans said as part of birkat hamazon or to the misheberachs that are said during shaharit on Shabbat and others. While it is certainly a nice thing to do so, answering amen to these is not a requirement and therefore one who is learning Torah does not need to stop in order to answer these.
