As mentioned numerous times previously, in a case where there is a safek whether a beracha is required or not it is forbidden to say the beracha. Nevertheless, it is still permitted for one to think the words of the beracha in his mind since the prohibition against unnecessary berachot is only when one actually says the words. It is not proper though to say the beracha in another language since there are many poskim who maintain that saying an unnecessary beracha in another language also not allowed.
